The Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy is excited to announce the addition of three new faculty members—Professors Nuno Limão, Clement Miller, and Matt Hochstetler—who will be joining our program in the spring.
Nuno Limão
Nuno Limão is the Landegger Program’s new Marcus Wallenberg Chair in International Business and Finance and will begin teaching in January 2023. Limão takes over the position from previous chair Professor Theodore “Ted” Moran, who held the role since its inception in the late 1990s.
Dr. Limão focuses on international trade, trade policy, and political economy. His research integrates theoretical and empirical work to examine a variety of issues, such as how governments choose among redistribution policies, the determinants of trade policy and trade agreements, and the effects of trade costs and geographic location.
Dr. Limão’s current research examines how firms and consumers are affected by policy uncertainty and the role for international institutions in managing such uncertainty. Dr. Limão is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and an Associate Editor of the Journal of International Economics. He received his BSc in economics from the London School of Economics in 1996 and his PhD from Columbia University in 2001.
Clement Miller (BSFS ‘83)
Clement Miller is an expert in international investing. Miller previously worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Wilmington Trust, the investment subsidiary of M&T Bank. Professor Miller has previous experience in international banking, specifically in international trade finance. He worked for the Export-Import Bank of the United States, where he served as a country risk economist, a trade finance negotiator, lending officer, and as a manager of the workouts division. Professor Miller earned his Bachelors of Science of Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1983, with a concentration in international economics. In 1989, he earned an MBA from George Washington University in Finance and International Business. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. For two years, he served as President of the Baltimore CFA Society.
Next semester, Professor Miller will be teaching GBUS 414: Geopolitical Risks in International Business, a three-credit course that provides a framework for understanding how geopolitical risks and corresponding risk actions impact international business.
Matt Hochstetler (BSFS ’01)
Hochstetler is a California-based investor who is currently a Portfolio Manager at Capital Group. He began his career as a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain and Company in Boston, Massachusetts, and also gained experiences in their Sydney and Singapore offices. Hochstetler worked at Bain’s nonprofit affiliate, The Bridgespan Group, where he became a published author on funding strategies in the Stanford Social Innovation Review and Nonprofit Quarterly. Prior to joining Capital Group in 2014, Hochstetler worked at Janus Capital, where he co-founded the Janus Emerging Markets Fund as a portfolio manager, among other accomplishments. In addition to his financial work, Hochstetler is also a certified RYT-500 yoga teacher and is a national board member for the Prison Yoga Project.
Next semester, Hochstetler will be teaching GBUS 403: Investment Management Career Prep, an intensive one-credit, week-long crash course that covers the ins and outs of the investment management industry.
