Certification for Emerging Market Economy and Financial Analysts

In consultation with employers such as the US Chamber of Commerce, Standard & Poors, Institute of International Finance who are seeking qualified financial analysts with robust understanding of the emerging markets, the Landegger Program in International Business and Diplomacy in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University is partnering with emerging finance market consultancy Kleiman International Consultants, Inc. to create an industry certification that equips students with critical and analytical skills to evaluate emerging markets in the public & private sector. The IBD program utilizes the intersectional approach to train students to think about emerging market finance through historical, political and economic framework.ย 

Both graduate and honors bachelors students can participate in the certification program. In order to receive the certification, students must successfully complete the following :

  1. Participate in the 15-hour training that follows a curriculum that incorporates topics such as:
    • emerging economy financial systems analysis;
    • bank and non-bank financial sector participants;
    • rating methodology & multilateral policy review; and
    • private equity and capital markets in emerging economy.

    The training modules include speakers from the IFC, S&P and EMPEA.

  2. Write an op-ed on the topic of โ€œCompetitiveness of International Financial Institutions.โ€
  3. Research and present a thorough briefing on emerging economy or financial sector topic incorporating issues covered in the workshopย 

Upon a successful completion of the certification program, participants receive a certification from the IBD program and a virtual certification on their personal LinkedIn page. It also includes internship arrangement and future plans with outside sponsorship that encompass a full range of additional mentoring, research project and career placement activities.ย

Managing Partner: Elizabeth R. Morrissey worked for international consulting firms in New York and a research group in Washington before co-founding the firm in 1987.ย  She regularly speaks at international conferences and seminars, and is editor of the firmโ€™s publications. Ms. Morrissey is a cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College and holds an advanced degree from New York University. She served on the Board of Admissions and International Committee of the University Club of Washington, DC, and is listed in Whoโ€™s Who in Finance.
