Our Public Speaking Workshop with Ann Timmons is a great opportunity for anyone looking to improve their public speaking skills, and particularly useful for those of you preparing for interviews, oral exams, and pitch competitions.

OBJECTIVES

To give students an awareness that every time they speak publicly they engage in communication that is more performance than private conversation;

To give students the tools they need to communicate effectively using their physical selves: their voices and their bodies. Special emphasis will be placed on strategies for achieving optimal posture, gestures/body language, vocal tone, pacing, and eye contact;

To give students opportunities for practice, peer feedback and professional feedback to adjust and enhance their communication styles to achieve success outcomes;

To give students templates for preparation of special public speaking events.

ABOUT ANN

Ann has a background as a professional stage and screen actor, voice-over talent, corporate spokesperson and speechwriter. Currently Ann splits her time consulting as a valued speech coach to private clients, non-profits, and businesses, and writing and producing her award-winning plays. Ann has been an assistant professor at American University in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the School of Public Affairs, and has led effective speaking workshops at Georgetown University and George Washington University. Ann received her Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Illinois.
