1. Hometown: Madrid, Spain
2. Current city: London, UK and New York, NY
3. Current Role: Senior Portfolio Manager in the Development Finance team at Allianz Global Investors where I mainly focus on impact investing in emerging markets
4. How did your career start? After graduating from Georgetown, I joined a rotational analyst program at Citi where I ended up working with public sector institutions that focus on promoting exports internationally and often support large infrastructure projects globally. This is where I discovered my passion for infrastructure and energy (i.e. real assets) and the significant positive impact promoting these sectors can have especially in developing countries. I then went on to work in project finance and renewable equity projects but overall, my roles have involved investing in developing countries, across real assets and in cooperation with the public sector.
5. What is your favorite IBD memory? One of my favorite IBD memories was being in an IBD class with both undergraduates and graduate students debating the pros and cons of outsourcing jobs to other countries (the economic, political and social aspects). I remember learning a lot, especially from many of the grad students that had first hand work experience in multinational companies and had direct experience in this topic.
6. How did your experience in IBD prepare you for your career? The IBD program was very helpful in many ways: it provided me with basic knowledge of finance and international business to complement the strong SFS curriculum, it also helped me with building a foundation in negotiations and taught me the basics of project finance and global infrastructure development, which are directly relevant to my career.
7. What was your most memorable IBD course? My favorite classes were “Outsourcing, Offshoring & Services” as well as “Microfoundations of Growth & Development.” The topics covered in these classes (promoting economic development, Foreign Direct Investment, infrastructure financing) have ended up being a big part of my career.
