Co-curricular Learning

The Landegger Program offers a variety of co-curricular activities for IBD honors certificate candidates throughout the academic year, including workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities. Many of our co-curricular opportunities feature or are led by IBD alumni. The Associate Director works closely with students to offer relevant and updated co-curriculars throughout the year. A sampling of our co-curricular offerings is below.

Coffee Chats

Several times a year, the IBD Program hosts “coffee chats”, during which we bring together a group of <10 IBD candidates for an in-depth conversation with a featured IBD alumni. During these coffee chats, alumni share their experiences both during and after Georgetown with students, who have the opportunity to ask questions about IBD courses, job search advice, and about the alumni’s industry.

Certification for Emerging Market Economy and Financial Analysts

As many employers seek qualified financial analysts with a robust understanding of the emerging markets, the Landegger Program has partnered with Gary Kleiman and Elizabeth Morrissey from the emerging finance market consultancy Kleiman International Consultants, Inc. to create an industry certification that equips students with critical and analytical skills to evaluate emerging markets in the public & private sector. The IBD program utilizes the intersectional approach to train students to think about emerging market finance through historical, political and economic framework.

The last workshop was held in October/November 2023 and the next workshop is scheduled for Fall 2024. The workshop is for IBD candidates only, although we occasionally have spots for non-IBD students. Public Speaking Workshop

Each year, the IBD program hosts communications expert Ann Timmons for a day-long public speaking and communication workshop for IBD candidates. The workshop gives students the tools they need to communicate effectively using their voices and bodies. Students learn strategies for achieving optimal posture, gestures/body language, vocal tone, pacing, and eye contact. During the workshop, students have the opportunity to practice public speaking and receive peer feedback and professional feedback to adjust and enhance their communication styles to achieve success.

The workshop is for IBD candidates only, although we occasionally have spots for non-IBD students. Seminars and Guest Lectures

Throughout the year, the IBD program hosts a number of industry-specific seminars and lectures focused on preparing for careers in different industries, skills development in various areas, and relevant global topics. The seminars and lectures are led by a variety of experts, including IBD alumni and professors, and vary year-to-year based on the interests of each honors certificate cohort. Recent and upcoming seminars include Consulting 101, Career Planning, Navigating the ESG Jungle, and the 2024 Global Macro Economic Outlook.
